The Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Employers in Two Important Cases

 

(April 16, 2013) The U.S. Supreme Court issued decisions in two significant cases that HR professionals should be aware of. The Court took the position SHRM advocated in its amicus briefs. The decisions are a “win” for HR professionals and employers. One decision enables them to avoid costly litigation through early settlement of FLSA cases without exposure to costly collective actions. The other decision reinforces the ability of HR professionals to rely on their employee benefits plan’s written terms without fear of unpredictable liabilities on a case-by-case basis..
